Already lauded by tastemakers such as Steve Lamacq, John Kennedy (Xfm), Mark Beaumont (NME), their debut single ?Ear Sex? brought forward support from many corners as the populous got involved with the Ear Sex sound. Now Innercity Pirates are back with ?Cockney Sparra? out on Superdark on 7th July.
The Pirates: Jon Davies (lives in Hackney and lives off selling Tupac T-shirts and fake Rocawear in Dalston Market), Dave Powell on drums (spent most of his time in school turning off the sexual education video in biology with his remote control watch). Along with songwriter Russell Toomey (Guitars/Vocals), think Pheasant stuffed with cocaine on a bed of Dylan and Stephy J (Bass) the mother-licker from Mars, the quartet are back on the road again. Hailing from small town Wales where their club night Ear Sex is still going strong, their last release of the same name splattered across everything from XFM airplay to NME.
Their new single ?Cockney Sparra? is a quirky piece of pop exuberance. The track is accompanied by B-side ?You Can Have It? which is practically radioplay heroin. With ?Compani-animals? completing the trio with a hushed harmonic piece of naivety, these new tracks remind the ears why Innercity Pirates are an outfit of opposing forces; pop-dance schizophrenia versus lullaby melodies.
