Appetite for Destruction

Having just returned from my seventh annual pilgrimage to Leeds Festival I can confirm Weezer were amazing and Rivers Cuomo is insane in the best way possible. I’m sure you were all waiting with baited breath to read that!!

The biggest surprise of the weekend though was The Libertines actually being amazing and not the shambolic mess I expected. Maybe it’s because my expectations were so low that I thought they were brilliant... either way it was awesome to see Pete and Carl together again.

The occasional showers did nothing to spoil the northern fun and no lifeboats were required (unlike in Reading!) However, why do people feel the need to go insane on Sunday night in Leeds?

Every year without fail there is trouble, fires and riots. None of which are as severe as the 2002 riots that put the future of the festival in jeopardy and prevented it from being held at Temple Newsham any longer. That doesn’t make it any better though. It doesn’t happen at other festivals, so why Leeds? What is it about this one festival that turns so many of the crowd into arsonists and crazed lunatics?

Anyway, on an unrelated note, on the site his week we have interviews with David Guetta and The Counterfeit Clash. New videos from Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow and A-HA. Plus competitions to win an exclusive We Are Scientists T-Shirt and a Rolling stones Stamp Collection. As if all this wasn’t enough Ricky Warwick, The Strange Death Of Liberal England, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster and The Brute Chorus are all on the road.

Seems strange that Leeds has these problems and no other major festival does. Is it such a different crowd to Reading, Glastonbury, etc?
