'Is This It': The Strokes Win Album Of The Decade

It has been revealed today that NME have named The Strokes' ‘Is This It’ as album of the decade. An esteemed panel of judges came to this decision i.e. a selection of artists, music experts, record labels and industry figures all sat round a table and decided that this indeed is it. Poll’s like this are always met with hour long debates about whether the number one spot goes to the fully deserving artist or not. People tend to get passionate about this type of thing. However, it is all only opinion. So what’s my opinion on this? Yeah it’s a good album, but best of the decade? I wouldn’t go that far. I do own a copy of this album but I have to confess the front cover is turned around. The close up of the woman’s va–jay-jay makes me vomit in my mouth. Don’t get me wrong I’m not opposed to va-jay-jay in anyway, in fact I have one of my own that I’m quite fond of but a close up of someone else’s on a cd cover, no thanks. Maybe there is some artistic explanation that I’m missing? So what would my album of the decade be? Well, the one that stands out musically, lyrically and the one that was the soundtrack to one hell of a good time for me has to be At The Drive In’s ‘Relationship Of Command’. It only made it to number twelve on the NME list- the fools- in my humble opinion it should be higher on the list. Although let’s be thankful we didn’t have another Kerrang! Incident where Green Day's 'American Idiot' was voted best album of the 21st century and 'Relationship of Command only came in at number 47 (they were robbed). However, I must say the NME poll was voted for by industry peeps and the Kerrang! Poll was voted for by the readers, hmm interesting. I may have to do me a constellation graph to see if there were any correlations (see GSCE science did pay off after all).

This poll highlights the fact that at this time of year we see the music media go poll crazy. Plus as it’s the end of the noughties, it throws up even more possible poll combinations. Of course there’s the obligatory artist of the year, album of the year, gig of the year, ones to watch for next year, how many pies you ate this year and so forth. Also this year we will have artist of the decade, album of the decade et cetera. Oh joy, but here at Glasswerk we are no different I have my orders that we to have to participate in poll fever, so you can guess what the gist of forthcoming editorials will be from December onwards! Although, I’m starting to wonder if people actually read the editorial? Is anyone still reading? If so leave me a comment- tell me your album/artist of the year and decade, even better email me at [mail]

So if you are still reading here’s what is on the website this week...as always we have all the latest news and reviews. We have brand spanking new videos from John Mayer, Lady GaGa and Good Shoes. Interviews with Soundpool and Therapy?, live reviews from Moby, Biffy Clyro and many more. Also you could be in with a chance of winning a copy of the new Creed album and NME’s ‘The Album 2009’ all you have to do is answer an easy peasy question. This week’s Glasswerk gigs are Nigel Clark (Dodgy), Chris Helme (ex-Seahorses), The Fall, Ocean Reid Tour and The Wailers. Enjoy!

First of all, what the fuck are you on about, this article or whatever it is terrible, your talking about graphs and your science GCSE and then Vaginas, what the fuck are you on about? You should be talking about the Strokes and the songs on the album not talking about a load of old bullshit. You should also be sacked because this review is awful, Second of all whos fucking choice was it at NME to give The Strokes' 'Is This It' Number 1 Best Album of the decade, it should be 'Smile' by Brian Wilson or the Fleet Foxes Debut Album.

You know nothing of music you idiot, here's a test who was the lead singer in the 1960's band Manfred Mann, I bet you don't even know who Manfred Mann are, you fucking ignorant idiot.

tomwing, I'll will take a moment to clear up a few things.

Firstly, let me just explain the difference between an editorial and a review. An editorial gives an opinion on a topical issue whereas a review is a critical assessment of a piece of work. So therefore my editorial does indeed fit the requirement of what an editorial should be. So to critic the songs of the Strokes on the 'Is This It' album would be inappropriate for the editorial.

Also what is wrong with being interested in new music? today's new music will give us tomorrows legends. Don't forget once upon a time Brian Wilson was a new artist starting out and people gave him a chance and he became a respected artist. Our website covers an eclectic mix of artists old and new. We've covered artists such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry to U2, Kings Of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z to even newer artists such as Mike Digman, The Ghost Of a Thousand, VV Brown and so on. Also we have featured a broad range of genres as you can tell.

Glasswerk employees are made up of people who have studied music and /or have alot of expereince in the music industry, so Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys, Manfred Mann, Paul Jones, Mike d'Abo - of course we know who they are.

Very good. Thank you for your statement, although I find it hard to think that artists now were as good as The Beach Boys and Beatles or Manfred Mann or Small Faces

Jeez whose the plumb who can't tell the difference between editorial and reviews?
(Think they might have been winding you up about Brian Wilson, poor angry internet nerd).

And I think she was talking about Vaginas as there is one on the front cover of the album, so it was relevant.

I can sympathise with that as I own a chumbawumba album called Anarchy that has a baby being pulled out of one. it really kinda makes you not want to take the damn thing off the sheld despite the contents of the CD.

Oh yeah, and the Strokes are over-rated. So is Radiohead's OK Computer (the album Q magazine can't get enough of). And i know the site is owned by a Scouser but I have no trouble saying that The Beatles (although good) are maybe a little bit "too much in the sun" of some people's opinions.

Now there's an interestinga rgument: You know if we never had the Stones or the Beatles, soemone else would have come along and done something fairly similar... So the music today we have wouldn't be miles off from what it is anyway. Eventually all the ideas get used up by someone. So I don't think we can say that we wouldn't have the music today if it weren't for them... But if we can say that - then since when is the music of today such a great thing?

If you really think that, you must be a bit of an idiot, there wouldn't of been a band that could of been as big as the beatles, other wise another band would have come along and showed us all, and there wasn't so there, Ok Computer is not overrated, The Beatles aren't 'too much in the sun' but have a reasonable amount of sun. One more thing, I'm only young so its not a wander that I don't know what the difference is between a editorial and a review is you douche. Last but not least! I'm not an internet nerd, telling by you who still has time at the age of 30 or whatever to make cynical comments about 'editorials' and 'reviews', you should be ashamed of yourself for picking onlittle kids

Well first off you are calling people "idiots", and you are also telling alot of people they are "wrong" in their opinions... as you probably know from experience.. People don't like either of those things, cause frankly nobody has a wrong opinokn about these things, and they should be entitled to it without having to put up with such remarks. if you can't restrain yourself then don't bother.

If you seriously want to become a reviewer you need to keep an open mind to reviewing music, or allowing for the fact that some people out there (no matter how wrong you think they are) do think that Radiohead's OK Computer is extremely overatted.

Such anger indeed!

Nevermind, another youthful mind wasted on bad language and foul temprament.

Still. I've never seen the comments section so busy! I'm sure the Strokes appreciate all the attention they are getting.

I love how this guy wants to spout out a load of foul mouthed abuse but when someone retorts he is suddenly 'only a little kid'.

How about you run along to school and keep yourself out of trouble, a few lessons in English language wouldn't go amiss.

Lesson 1 - you get what you give. Dont dish out abuse if you can't take the responses. No-one is ganging up. Just giving individual replies to your offensive, illiterate and rude posts.

Lesson 2 - People will take what you have to say much more seriously if you don't rant a load of abuse online.

Have to agree with the Lady (sorry if it appears if im ganging up). You did start your attacks by telling someone that they were an Idiot, which wasn't very nice a response.

You can disagree with opinions without getting abusive. We are all for argument, just not angry offensive argument. And as Lol points out - you really didn't like it when people talked back to you in a similar dismissive fashion.

So lesson learnt. Let's all find another news piece to trash! Anyone looking forward to any SOLD OUT festivals for next year?

And a Question for all the Liverpudlians... How many people have you met up there called Tracey, and how many girls run around with the old Orange make-up on their faces?
