Bands Boycott BP

Since the massive oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico, BP Chief Executive, Tony Hayward has been branded the most hated man in the US. He has been accused of “corporate complacency” that has lead to America’s worst environmental catastrophe. Committee members at the investigation into the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig have accused BP of having a “cavalier disregard for environmental rules and worker’s safety.” One committee member said “the anger at BP is at fever pitch. It’s almost palpable.”

It’s not just environmentalists and government bodies that are determined to make a stand against BP due to this. Bands are now standing up to announce that they will be actively boycotting BP on their upcoming tours. Korn were the first band to speak out against the oil giants with Creed and the Backstreet Boys quickly following suit. The latest superstar to lend their voice to the boycott campaign is Lady Gaga. As well as the artists themselves using no BP products across their tour vehicles, they are hoping to inspire their fans to jump on the band wagon and boycott the company too. Really hit them where it hurts, their profits!

Anyway, enough of this political stuff, on the website this week we have interviews with Dr Dog, The Temper Trap and Scouting for Girls. Videos from James Corden and Dizzee Rascal, The Good Gods! And Memory Tapes. Competitions to win tickets to the Beat-Herder Festival, tickets to see Jack Johnson and tickets to see Keane! If that wasn’t enough Kate McGill, Graffiti 6, Cattle Decapitation and Black Mountain are all on the tour trail.... wonder if they’re using BP?
