“Hard times call for harder music, and it works; not-giving-a-fuck-itude with a beat and lyrics that cut both coming and going; totally awesome post-synth-punk uniqueness which suggests an exciting future; there isn’t anyone around at the moment you could compare them to; this has a tribal effect on me and makes me want to throw myself on the dance-floor and make a tit of myself” says the collective media of London outfit Gold Blood & their debut ‘Twilight Language’ E.P.
Gold Blood are university Lecturer Emile Bojesen and keyboard enthusiast Michael Anthony Wright, who seemingly impress all wherever they go. With their Ali Renault designed & DJ Andy Blake managed, original and exciting music, they work together to create music just beyond their comfort zone, using Emile's self-referential lyrics alongside Michaels dated keyboard and drum-machine work.
They kindly took some time to answer a few questions…
AS: When you take aim with your peashooter/pellet gun/sniper rifle, you’re aiming at whom?
GB: God... always!
AS: Where do you go when it all gets too much?
GB: The library.
AS: Is bedtime more half nine with a half read paper or more half four with fully red eyes?
GB: Depends if it’s a weekend.
AS: What do you do with any ‘you’ time?
GB: If you mean ‘you’ time then I’m performing or lecturing. If you mean ‘me’ time, then it’s ‘me’ time for a reason!
AS: Who would be your dream collaborator?
GB: Michael Anthony Wright.
AS: What’s the last gig/concert you went to?
GB: The Sans Pareil at the Macbeth.
AS: What’s the best / your favourite music video?
GB: East Flatbush Project’s ‘Tried by 12’.
AS: If you were a musical instrument what would you be?
GB: I wouldn’t be!
AS: What’s ‘love at first sight’ all about then?
GB: Not being blind.
AS: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
GB: Soren Kierkegaard and Fela Kuti.
AS: Care to share any regrets, missed opportunities or things that might’ve been?
GB: Life.
AS: Were/are you aware of your escalating popularity?
GB: Does this object exist?!
AS: Will your past come back to haunt you or will karma be kind?
GB: No, I’m surely fucked!
AS: Where do you most enjoy playing live?
GB: Damp cellars!
AS: Why? What's your biggest why question that mystifies you most?
GB: Why why?!
AS: What influences your sound above all else?
GB: Physics.
AS: Where do you sit in the grand scheme of things?
GB: On the fence.
AS: Why the name (not your christened name of course)?
GB: Bill Ambrose says Gold Blood is slang for an erection... that isn’t why though!
AS: Who’s the most likely to go solo or crazy?
GB: For me, going solo would be going crazy.
AS: Any choice epitaphs or famous last words for which you’d like to be quoted?
GB: ‘Life Rules’.
AS: What makes you better than everyone else?
GB: The fact that I know I’m not.
AS: When do you plan to take over the world?
GB: Already have.
AS: What changes can we expect with your latest outing?
GB: I don’t shout as much.
AS: Are you all agreed/in control of the formats for your releases?
GB: As much as I care to be.
AS: Wish you were doing anything else with your time other than music?
GB: I am.
AS: Who were your heroes as a teenager?
GB: Nietzsche, Rousseau and Henry Miller… they still are.
AS: What do you think of the paparazzi?
GB: Badly paid: pointless.
AS: What music are you listening to of late?
GB: Bad Brains… on repeat.
AS: Any message for underachieving or odds-facing musicians out there?
GB: Underachievers: Work harder or give up. Odds-facing: Keep it up.
AS: Any career highs or lows you care to share?
GB: Not yet.
AS: Do you enjoy playing live or are you more at home in a studio?
GB: Studio is the mind. Live is the body.
AS: Your career defining dream moment would/will be what?
GB: I’d kill myself if I had one of those!
AS: Know of any upcoming bands that are destined for greatness?
GB: Sans Pareil, Ali Renault and Bill Ambrose.
AS: How important do you feel visuals are in relation to music?
GB: Not very... yet.
AS: What’s been the highlight of your year?
GB: New job.
AS: I’m sure you’ve done a few but which gig has been your best?
GB: The best so far was a show at Shunt under London Bridge.
AS: Is there more pressure playing live with a band than there is playing solo?
GB: I would never ever play solo. I HAVE to have someone to blame.
AS: Are you unlucky in love and if so, why?
GB: Love is unlucky.
AS: Best song, movie OR album ever?
GB: ‘Life.Love.Regret’ by Unbroken.
AS: Where did you sleep last night?
GB: My floor… I haven’t got a screwdriver to make my bed yet!
AS: What’s your secret vice... what are you a sucker for?
GB: Attached women.

GB: Jealousy.
AS: Where’s the place to be?

GB: Other people’s memories.

GB: Cello played by a woman.
AS: What inspired the LP title?
GB: Ask Ali Renault. I have no idea.
AS: Are you a good dancer and can you prove it?
GB: No. Yes.
AS: What kinds of music (if any) do you dislike the most?
GB: Weak as piss indie.
AS: Where will you retire to when you're tired of comeback concerts?
GB: The grave.

GB: God’s will.

GB: The future.

GB: Not really, no.

GB: The Beatles.

GB: Only slightly harder than it was becoming who I was yesterday.

GB: Ask Galileo!

GB: Lots and lots and lots of relationships.
