Following on from her sensational UK dates last year, including a headlining gig at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire which sold-out in under four hours, Janelle Monáe is set to return for five more UK shows “ablaze with energy and ideas, the whip crack discipline of James Brown and the acid-rock wildness of Funkadelia” (Guardian). Just announced as special guest for the tour is Cocknbullkid.
The 25 year old Hackney resident, Cocknbullkid aka Anita Blay, is in possession of the most interesting, credible pop record of the year ‘Adulthood’. lead single 'Hold On To Your Misery' has been championed by R1s perennially on-point Huw Stephens as well as the NME and Popjustice. Adulthood was recorded in London, Paris and Stockholm with production from Liam Howe (man behind Marina and the Diamonds). Blay co-wrote the songs with a variety of talents, including electronic, eccentric piano man Gonzales who worked on half the songs.
Meanwhile Janelle Monáe was been nominated at the weekend for TWO GRAMMY AWARDS!: Best Urban/Alternative Performance for ‘Tightrope’ and Best Contemporary R&B Album for ‘The ArchAndroid’ and performed her latest single ‘Cold War’ alongside Bruno Mars and B.O.B.
The five headlining UK dates have been announced for February & March including a London Roundhouse date (all dates below):

Janelle Monáe’s current album ‘The ArchAndroid’ has also topped the UK end of year polls, with Mojo, Q, Uncut, Word, Clash and Drowned in Sound rating it high in their ‘Top 50 Albums of 2010’ round-ups, with Mojo making Janelle Monáe’s single ‘Tightrope’ their ‘Single of 2010’.
