Outside:Inside Festival Returns

If you haven’t heard of the Outside:Inside Festival before, then you are in for a nice surprise. Outside:Inside is now in it's 3rd year and this year’s line-up is without doubt the best yet. Reading will be playing host to a number of local, National, and International bands, DJs, artists representing many great Nations including South Africa, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Canada, the United States, and even Cluj, Romania.

Outside:Inside Festival will be running over four Saturdays and kicks off in style on the 31st July. Performers include the legendary DJ Derek, who recently featured in Dizzie Rascal's video; The Chemical Brothers mentor Justin Robertson, who brings his wealth of skill and experience to the official afterparty alongside Reading based DJ Radioactive Man, aka one half of Two Lone Swordsman Keith Tenniswood. Also on offer on the day include Mr Scruff faves Scubaroots, Jazz and funk from Paul Jordanous Big Band, Hugh Turner and Big Trains Haymaker; a theatre stage a cinema and DJ tent.

Throughout the day music, art, film, theatre, dance, spoken word and family interaction provide something for everyone. All the Outside festival events are FREE and you won't have to deal with the massive crowds of the larger commercial festivals.

The organisers, Outside:Inside and Reading UK CIC want to see the town’s culture recognised and supported by the people of Reading and provide a voice to the wealth of artistic talent and young enterprise.

There are more than a few local acts on the musical line-up, and for the first time there will be live festival sets in Reading from local sweethearts Does It Offend You, Yeah? Amys Ghost, Pete and the Pirates, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Worship, Radioactive Man, Midimidis and Limpopo Groove as well as many other bands and artists.

The Outside:Inside short film exhibition, is this year contained in four locations, Bar Mango, The Oakford Social Club, Mix Bar, and the private cinema in the Forbury Hotel. It features works by Peter Dixon, Karen Stenner, Paul Hamer, Steve Norris, Ian Manson, Larry Brangwyn, and the great Paul Hills who has kindly donated his short master piece 'f2point8'. Paul Hills first came to national prominence with his second feature film 'Boston Kickout' which launched the careers of John Simm & Marc Warren. Paul Hill's most recent film 'Do Elephants Pray' has already won 5 international film festival awards.

Outside:Inside Festival will also be celebrating visual and performing arts through a variety of exhibitions, installations, interactive performances and workshops. Participating artists and groups include The Rising Sun Arts Centre with their three roving carnival creations, Vicky Vergou with her "Language Box" interviewing people and Ann Rapstoff's piece "Office for the Dissemination of Sympathy" A mini art market featuring many local artists will take place on Saturday 14 August. The final festival weekend amongst other art activities, you can join the Outcasts (a group of renegade knitters) making a giant picnic blanket surrounded by knitted graffiti by Alison Friday in the Forbury Gardens followed by a spellbinding performance of "The River" beside the Holy Brook.

After a hard day of free festival fun why not head to Bar Mango for the official festival after party. Its free before 9pm, DJ Derek goes on at 9pm, and is followed by a stellar party line up, Justin Robertson, Radioactive Man, Jac Bon Cochon, Matt Sever and Ibetya.
