Something is stirring in the city of Bath, and for once it’s not dubstep or drum and bass related. Ready Set Low are a quintet who specialise in pop-punk and hardcore, and they’re not afraid to stand out in a city sadly lacking in bands of their ilk.
Their debut EP, Lost At Sea, is filled with insanely catchy call and response choruses, soaring backing vocals, rhythmic breakdowns and guitar lines that could whip a roomful of teenagers into a ball of mass hysteria. Recorded at Stakeout Studios in London with producer Jason Wilcock (Fightstar, You Me At Six, We Are The Ocean), the EP is a showcase for this bands knack for song writing and ear for a melody.
Across 3 tracks, Ready Set Low demonstrate a clear talent for pop edged songs (think Hundred Reasons meets Four Year Strong) that burrow into your brain and don’t leave for days. Alex Sears (vocals) switches seemingly effortlessly from emotional outpourings of guttural vocal breaks to complex, melodic hook lines, as the rest of the band (Joe Marriner – Guitar, Connor Fathers – Guitar, Dan Clarke - Drums, Harry Norton - Bass) pour forth a driving, bouncing wall of sound that opens up into expansive, mass sing-a-long choruses.
Their stand-out, English brand of pop punk / hardcore has so far earned them shows with rising UK stars like Futures, Not Advised, All Or Nothing and Summerlin and Ready Set Low are looking to build on their early success when they head out on their headline tour in November 2010.
With hardcore and pop punk having a massive resurgence, things are looking good for the band in late 2010/2011.
