Annie Lennox, Kate Nash, Paloma Faith And V V Brown Celebrate The Centenary Of International Women’s Day

To celebrate the centenary of International Women’s Day, EQUALS Live and Southbank Centre will bring together Annie Lennox, Kate Nash, Paloma Faith and V V Brown in a unique concert to celebrate the strength and unity of women across generations. The event on 11 March will showcase the power of British female recording artists as part of Southbank Centre’s Women of the World Festival and celebrate the 100th anniversary of a day created to demand greater equality for women.

From new works to classics, Southbank Centre presents EQUALS Live at the Royal Festival Hall promises to be a night of powerful song and passionate words. Featuring guest speakers and high profile presenters, the evening will celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness of the inequalities that women still face around the world and inspire people to share their vision of what an equal world could look like.

Annie Lennox said: “Southbank Centre presents EQUALS Live will be a wonderful way for people of all generations to come together to celebrate International Women’s Day, debate the inequalities that still exist and raise their voices in solidarity with women across the globe.”

EQUALS is a partnership of more than 20 leading charities brought together by Annie Lennox to celebrate the centenary of International Women’s Day and step up the call for a more equal world.

WOW – Women of the World, is Southbank Centre’s celebration of the achievements and role of women – a new annual festival, which will present, recognise and celebrate women from 11-13 March.

Jude Kelly, Artistic Director of Southbank Centre and Festival Director of Women of the World, said: “As one of the very few female leaders of a major international arts organisation, I am all too aware of the disparity between women’s talent and their opportunity to show it in every sector. Society will benefit in every way when this changes. Women of the World festival offers people of all ages and walks of life the opportunity to celebrate women and share their stories with each other. While we don’t expect to solve this historic imbalance in a three-day festival, we hope the truly awesome array of talent we have assembled will inspire and entertain in equal measure.”

Southbank Centre presents EQUALS Live takes place on Friday 11 March 2011 at the Royal Festival Hall, at 7.30pm. To purchase tickets (priced at £50, £40 and £30) please go to [link] or call 0844 847 9910.
