Liverpool is the location for the launch of a unique art and music exhibition ‘55Roots’ brought to ‘Polished T Gallery’ by global street-wear brand ‘55DSL’. The exhibition will run for two weeks launching on Thursday 17th November.
‘55 Roots’ is a retrospective celebration of roots music and its influence on youth culture and popular music. It exhibits six of the most current world-wide artists who have been selected to visually interpret a selection of original tracks from Trojan Records for 55DSL’s (Diesel) groundbreaking exhibition.
Renowned pioneers of Jamaican sounds Trojan Records famed for introducing the Rocksteady, early Reggae right through to modern Dancehall Jungle and Ska. Historically they have released tracks by musical greats Bob Marley & The Wailers, Lee Scratch Perry and Arthur ‘Duke’ Reid along with many more.
The six artists selected to exhibit include Tokyo born Dragon who will work together with Trojan to offer a rare viewing treat for the audience as he will create live and original artwork in front them. Other artists include Mitchy Bwoy of Bugz in The Attic fame, Shibuya from Japan along with James Carey, Jim Stoten and Peter Quinell. The launch event will also include music from The Mighty Trojan Soundsystem including Selectas Earl Gateshead & Daddy Ad, DJ E.A.S.E (Nightmares on Wax) featuring MC’s Chuchie Banton and Superflour.
This is an exhibition that fuses up and coming artists with one of the most prolific labels in the music industry. Following the Liverpool launch the exhibition will move to Birmingham and Glasgow to continue the artistic interpretation of the musical influences that have transcended the decades to become an intrinsic part of popular culture. For those who missed out on the Sex Pistols and Malcolm McClaren or the Andy Warhol/ Velvet Underground movements this exhibition is as near as damn it.
