Having conquered both the single and album charts in 2009, Calvin Harris goes back to his underground roots in 2010 with the launch of his new label, ‘Fly Eye’.
Set to launch on 3 May with the release of Mr Blink’s ‘Gecko’, the new imprint will focus on “exciting club music” from across the spectrum. Further releases will be announced shortly.
The identity of the mysterious Mr Blink, who previously supported Calvin on his UK and French tours alongside Mr Hudson, is currently unknown. Rumoured to be a well-known producer, Blink has so far turned up to each show in costume and is only contactable via email.
‘Gecko’ is a riotous nugget of pitch-bent electronica and rave-y stabs. If people still made vinyl records it would be the A-side, and if people still worked in those kinds of dance music shops that your uncle/older brother/dad used to frequent, they’d likely describe it as “proper good.”
Remixes come from hotly tipped producer, Burns - the young dance star tipped for big things in 2010, following a handful of original productions and remixes for Black Eyed Peas, Frankmusik, Gossip, Ladyhawke, and many more – and David E Sugar, in his Zumz guise for a synth-heavy rerub, showing just why he’s been snapped up by Sunday Best.
With typical aplomb - and a cast iron promise - Calvin Harris said:
