The Blockheads, James Taylor Quartet and Rocky Dawuni Confirmed For Limetree Festival

The quirky and quintessentially cool Limetree Festival is once again lining up some of the biggest names in jazz, funk and soul for the third year running in the beautiful enclaves of Limetree Farm, Grewlthorpe, North Yorkshire on August 27 - 29 2010.

Already widely recognised as one of the most well respected small festivals in the country - it earned a Best New Festival nomination at the UK Festival Awards 2008 in its first year - 2010’s event is set to be better than ever with pop punk stalwarts The Blockheads, jazz specialists the James Taylor Quartet and international reggae star Rocky Dawuni already confirmed for this year’s line-up.

Festival organiser Sean Birdsall said: “I love the fact that simply through starting this festival we have created the chance for people to get together and make friends, many of which are lasting.

“All we want is to create something pure and beautiful where good people are and good people come; that’s why it is so important that those who come to our festival feel completely at home – that Limetree is like being in your friend’s back garden, only with better music.”

As well as the Green Man Stage which showcases many of this year’s headlining acts including The Blockheads, James Taylor Quartet, Rocky Dawuni, O’Boyle & Tidow, Kava Kava and Smoove & Turrell, Sean and co-founder Karen Bisdall have named a stage in tribute to the late Jason Rea, saxophonist with The Haggis Horns and husband to Corrine Bailey Rae. The stage will serve as a platform for the very best in regional and national talent including eight-piece hip-hop funk band Mouse Outfit, dance DJ legends Utah Saints and afrobeat space-jazz sensations the Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra who release their highly anticipated debut album later this year.

Queerinspace also returns after its rapturous debut last year, bringing the finest music, comedy and film in its Bet Lynch tent. Whether visitors count themselves queer or not, they’re sure to enjoy singer-songwriters Ella Edmonson and Rodina, harpist Fiona Katie Roberts, ragtime revellers The Devil’s Juke Box and the fabulous music and burlesque show of Madam Laycock and her Dabeno Pleasures.

With BBC Radio 6 Music’s Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show broadcasting live from Limetree on Saturday night and a host of other activities to enjoy including craft areas, face painting, workshops and nature trails, Limetree is the perfect event for the whole family to enjoy.
