Rumer Announces Headline Tour

Rumer has announced plans for the next single from her platinum-selling debut album, ‘Seasons Of My Soul’. She will release the brilliant ‘Goodbye Girl’ – a cover of the David Gates classic, and the final song on her own record – on April 4. This coincides with her biggest UK Tour to date, which has sold out, and will begin at Bristol’s Colston Hall on March 21 (featuring a Royal Festival Hall date on March 28). The tour will conclude at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on April 3.

Rumer’s new single follows her recent nominations for 2011’s BRIT Awards. She was up for Best British Female Solo Artist (against the likes of Cheryl Cole, Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith and Laura Marling) together with Best British Breakthrough Act (eventually won by Tinie Tempah). This week, Rumer has also been nominated for two UK Asian Music Awards, in which she will compete for the prizes of Best Newcomer and Best Alternative Act.

‘Goodbye Girl’ is the fourth single to be lifted from Rumer’s acclaimed debut album ‘Seasons Of My Soul’, which has held firm in the Top 10 for much of the new year. It has sold over 400,000 copies since its November 1 release, and became the fastest-selling debut record of 2010. ‘Goodbye Girl’ itself was originally sung by Gates (Bread), and was released in 1978. It also soundtracked the Richard Dreyfus movie of the same name, and remains one of Rumer’s favourite songs. This much-reworked version marries her much-lauded voice with Gates’ gorgeously sing-along pop chorus.

With the tour surrounding ‘Goodbye Girl’ sold out, Rumer will announce further live and festival plans shortly. In the meantime, she has been announced as one of the first acts to perform at this year’s iTunes Festival (together with Duran Duran and Linkin Park). She will headline Camden’s Roundhouse on July 18, a venue she last sang at with Elton John and Leon Russell as part of the BBC Electric Proms. Every ticket to the iTunes Festival is free, and can be won by entering the prize draw at [link]. Acts that have headlined the festival in the past include Oasis, Amy Winehouse and Paul McCartney.
