After a decade in the business, a genre change and a myriad of hit singles, Goldfrapp are back with their best work yet. The fifth album from the electro duo 'Head First' will be released in three weeks on March 22nd.

Lead single 'Rocket' is available to buy from Monday March 8th. Speaking to The Times, frontwoman Allison Goldfrapp says that the band “wanted to make a direct and euphoric sound. It's very much about the melodies and the celebratory feel to the songs.”

The album is said to be reminiscent of their third album Supernature, which preceded their mellow folk album Seventh Tree in 2008. The album is short and sharp with nine songs, which “atmosphere-wise and sentiment-wise, they’re kind of...fun” Allison declared.

The soft melodies may and hushed drum of their previous album may not be featured as much on Head First, but is certainly not forgotten. The band have always argued that Seventh Tree had distinct pop influences and was not a complete shift from their electronic roots. Nonetheless, the synth is heavy, the eighties are highlighted and classic Goldfrapp is the theme of the record.

Asked about what era and artists influence Goldfrap, Allison recalls the eighties. “Our keyboard sounds are quite fat, lead melodies, which was definitely a thing of that era. But I think our influences have come from all kinds of places and eras, and maybe some are more obvious than others”.

It had been reported that the band was pressured by their record company into releasing the album quickly and to bring back their electro pop sound. But Gregory told Popjustice that “there wasn't pressure for a certain type of album..they never tell us what sort of record they think it should be”.
