Richard Hawley and Marc Almond Set To Play Mojo Honours Shows

MOJO, the UK’s biggest selling music magazine, are delighted to announce that the MOJO Honours List 2010 will be preceded by four London shows that truly celebrate the world’s most respected musicians and songwriters. The MOJO Honours List 2010 will take place on 10 June 2010.

Kicking off on Saturday 5 June at the Jazz Café in Camden, Roy Harper will be the first of four renowned male singer songwriters to take to the North London stage, followed by the ever popular Richard Hawley on 7 June, Denver’s superbly talented John Grant on 8 June and finally the musically eclectic Marc Almond on 9 June. The MOJO Honours gigs are rare, intimate performances that blaze a trail to the main MOJO Honours List ceremony.

The MOJO Honours List is the most respected of all music magazine awards ceremonies. The winners of The 2010 MOJO Honours List will be announced on 10 June 2010 at a central London location. Legends of music, unsung heroes and contemporary talent will join together in celebration of the MOJO year in music and the 2010 winners.

Previous recipient of the MOJO Hero Award in 2005 after a solid 40-year musical journey, Roy Harper returns to the MOJO stage bringing with him a much lauded, distinctive and uncompromising style of music. Responsible for writing some of the most romantic and affecting love sings of our time, Harper arranges thoughtful, honest and often mischievous words around startling constructions of extraordinary guitar music; a perfect start to the summer series of gigs.

In the two years since his universally acclaimed Top Ten album Lady’s Bridge, 2008 BRIT Award nominated Richard Hawley has flexed his musical muscles on a range of projects, notably playing with Elbow and the Artic Monkeys. Coming to the Jazz café after a successful nationwide UK tour in support of his album ‘Truelove’s Gutter’ at the end of 2009, Hawley will be enthusiastically welcomed with his live Sheffield sound.

John Grant, former singer/songwriter with the Czars, returns with his extraordinary first solo- debut album ‘Queen Of Denmark’ in 2010. Backed on the album by American soft-rock sensations Midlake, John’s effortlessly rich, expansive baritone couched in lush melody is sure to reach out to a new wider audience this year, and will no doubt be showcased superbly in his MOJO show.

Needing no introduction, Marc Almond has enjoyed a long and varied career with Soft Cell and Marc and the Mambas. Involved in fruitful collaborations with an extremely wide range of respected artists including Anthony and the Johnsons, Jools Holland, Siouxsie Sioux and Nick Cave, Marc’s solo career has excelled in displaying his skill at mixing musical genres and writing vividly poignant lyrics. With his first solo album in 10 years due for release in June, Almond will be undoubtedly be at his peak for an unmissable MOJO performance.
