Metallica Take On The Beatles And Van Halen For Gaming Supremacy
Three of the biggest names in music history are going head to head in the Music Game Of The Year category in the world’s biggest video games awards event, the Golden Joystick Awards.

The multi million selling heavy metal titans are gunning for the prestigious award with their ‘Guitar Hero: Metallica’ title and will face stiff competition from the hugely popular ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ and ‘Guitar Hero: Van Halen’.

With over 300 million album sales between them, the trio has collectively rewritten music history. While The Beatles have helped shape the face of popular culture for the past 50 years, Metallica have popularised heavy metal music across the globe and Van Halen have fused virtuoso rock musicianship with spectacular live performances, placing them into the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most #1 hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart.

All three bands released their games in the past 12 months and are nominated alongside seven other blockbuster console based music games.

The full list of nominations in the Music Game Of The Year category for the 2010 Golden Joystick Awards is;

Guitar Hero: Metallica
DJ Hero
Guitar Hero on Tour: Modern Hits
Guitar Hero 5
The Beatles: Rock Band
Guitar Hero Greatest Hits
Band Hero
Guitar Hero: Van Halen
Just Dance
Lego Rock Band

The categories in the Golden Joystick Awards are voted for by the only people who matter – the gamers themselves. Known as the ‘people’s gaming awards’ it is also held in high esteem in the global video games industry with nearly 1,000 executives attending the glittering ceremony, which will this year be held at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel on 29th October 2010.

This year’s awards see the first introduction of the Music Game Of The Year category, reflecting the huge popularity of the genre as music games have taken gaming more mainstream and positioned the games console firmly at the heart of family entertainment.

The ever-growing Golden Joystick Awards has been the ultimate accolade in gaming since 1982 and is now recognised as the biggest and most popular gaming awards on the planet. Gamers cast 1,223,646 votes in 2009 as the awards scooped its own accolade, being named ‘World’s most popular video games awards’ by Guinness World Records.
