The Research are a soft-pop trio from Wakefield made up of two girls ‘who couldn’t play their instruments’ and a boy who writes songs about girls. Granted that analysis might make you squeamish but this is cute little tune that bops with an endearing sense of innocence despite the sensitivity of it’s lyrics.
Simply sweet harmonies from the girls (Georgia and Sarah) give this song a childish sincerity to it and although it is a toe tapper the girls, who make up the rhythm section, keep it dainty and fresh.
Russell, the man of the band, gives the song an extra layer of warmth adding backing vocals and keys and I find myself slotting the album on to my shelf in between The Thrills and Alicia’s Attic.
After a few listens however my weepy, love lamenting side has subsided some what and it suddenly appears annoyingly repetitive and more comfortable in the background but it’s worth a listen if you’ve just been dumped or have lost faith in love of all kinds.
