While they may initially sound like any other old Kaisers/Maximo Park wannabee rockers, listen closer and it soon becomes obvious that goFASTER are way better than that and are perhaps more closely linked in style to The Rakes than either. The band love a good bit of electro (witness “She Starts Monday” and its infuriatingly instant-classic synth line) and spew out quality modern-life-is-rubbish lyrics (the b-sides brilliant ‘Lennon said you can’t buy love, Heather’s loaded, McCartney’s blown it’ refrain) and create just fantastic party pop. That they’re even better live should come as no surprise to anyone who hears this debut single and its incredibly catchy b-side. The Liverpool band make songs that need to be played to fans jumping around and losing shoes in a sweaty dive, because these are true party-starting anthems. That you’ll probably be sick of goFASTER in a few months when their radio-friendly choruses are blasting out at you every time you venture into Top Man is not really the point, because right now these tunes are fresh, relevant and seriously worthy of taking notice of. Now the scary part - they only formed last summer! Christ if they’re coming up with tunes this catchy and lyrics this memorable after only a few months, what are they gonna be chucking at us this time next year? Charts, you have been warned.
