Ten Reasons To Live
Ten Reasons To Live @ Barfly, Liverpool
Date: 7th April 2007
Support: Jackpot Golden Boys + Many Many More

This is Rockwerk ’07. It’d be nice to say this year was bigger and better than last year. Unfortunately it isn’t bigger, it’s only better. Last year’s three-day indoor festival to celebrate the Easter weekend bank holiday was followed up this year with just two days - The middle day being taken by the almighty Chibuku club night. In summary, Day 1 is indie and Day 2 is metal.

Before I begin the run down I must make the apologies to the bands who I failed to cover. Notably Eleven P’s and Kingomar who’s sets clashed with my favourite bands. Next year’s review will be a two, maybe three-person job for sure.

The highlights of day one came from 10 Reasons to Live, Jackpot Golden Boys and Mark Morriss. The latter a sublime performance from the Bluetone’s singer/songwriter. His fantastic rapport with the fans is mirrored by rows of smiling faces beaming all through the 45 minute set.

The Jackpot Golden Boys are the most terrifying band ever to come from Preston. Their camp metal is unique in its form, who dares mix the Scissor Sisters with Slipknott and The Beach Boys? A gruesome show of twisted horror bubble-gum metal ensues for about thirty minutes. During which eggs are launched from the backside of ‘stripped to his g-string’ keyboardist Hat. Goodie bags are hurled and the majority of people cower at the back in the shadows. There was an incident last time this band were in Liverpool that left a lot of people red-faced and there were fears that this may erupt again. The JPGB’s: As flamboyant as the rocky horror show, and as quirky as Pee Wee Herman in a cage-fight.

10 Reasons To Live won’t mind me saying that they are a great band. They may mind me questioning why they are so popular. Hordes of women (and men), are teased into adoring and sleazing over this, one of the cities current top live bands. Man, it’s almost the Bay City Rollers again! There aren’t many better looking rock bands. Put Robbie Williams, Donny Tourette and David Beckham in a band together and you are on the way to visualizing this band. As you can imagine, it’s a very good stage show. (When the Cavern Club celebrated their 50 years they invited 10 Reasons… to headline.) There is no bigger band that you may not have seen or even heard of. It won’t be that way for long.

This was all built up to in a rising crescendo by performances by Mood Food, Tiny Amp, Bleed, Alistair Savage, Eighth Day Army, Beat Poets, K115, Avant Gardner, Sirenz and Foster Kids who if you didn't see them is your loss...You'll have to wait for the DVD to come out.
