Ipso Facto played in front of a packed audience on Friday night at Korova, Liverpool and it is the third time that I have seen Ipso Facto live and they seem to be growing from strength to strength. The first was when I saw them supporting Magazine which they also provided backing vocals for Magazine.
The crowd were drawn in by the opening song and no one wanted the gig to end with everyone chanting, “We want more! We want more!” It is hard to pick a stand out track from the gig as the set was perfect for the atmosphere of the night, combining distorted rock and blues. The opening track, ‘Introducing’ lures you into their sound from Rosalie’s guitar and vocal sound of dirge to the strength of the bass lines and drumming of Samantha and Victoria. ‘Queen Sophia’ is a track that stays in your head for days with their upbeat blues beat to a catchy mournful vocal sound. ‘Balderdash’ is a crowd favourite and it is a song that everyone can sing to with lyrics of “Ah-Oh, Ah-Oh” seemed to bring the crowd to the mercy of the band wanting more. When they played ‘You don’t Own Me’, you forgot where you were and took you on journey that was breathtaking to listen to from the vocals to the overall sound of the music.
The girls described playing at Liverpool SoundCity by saying, “We only managed to arrive today and we have only heard a few bands but the music is really good and we wished we could have been here for the start.”
Throughout the week I have listened to various bands and no one has come close to the quality or the sound of Ipso Facto. It is my opinion that they are the most unique British band that I have heard in a long time. Along with their unique sound of dirge and solemn vocals they have a unique look that is colourless and Irresistible to look at.
