George Harrison - Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison
Released: 15th June 2009
Label: Capitol

Fans and critics alike love to spending time arguing over Lennon or McCartney. Here’s evidence that Harrison was just as much a song writer in their league – he just didn’t write as frequently as his counterparts.

The range of tracks covered here has been well chosen. There are old classics as well as songs he recorded later in his career. The album opens with his 80’s hot “Got My mind Set On You” which if memory serves well had Harrison doing back flips in a room that behaved like the kind of rooms you see in Evil Dead movies (it literally comes to life with the song). Speaking of film, anyone familiar with the lethal Weapon series will be happy to hear “Cheer Down” which helped close proceedings of the second film.

“Give Me Love”, “Here Comes the Sun” and many more all encompass an impressive solo career beyond the band that made his name. What is more impressive is that Harrison clearly has some very distinctive sounds to his music. This collection of 19 songs can only leave fans enthusiastic at his talent, and even misty eyed that he is with us no more.
