There is a jangling, melodic and tuneful guitar on a Cribs song! There is a sense of cohesion, there is a lack of reliance on character and personality, and there is intelligence and a moral quality that stops and makes you wonder. The Cribs have grown up, just as Johnny Marr has started youth again and the result is a sensible, quasi-Smiths, lyrically poignant effort that suggests The Cribs fourth album will be their best to date and replace a naive messiness with songs that are as bold as they are British and as catchy as they are careful, just like they always promised!
