I’m getting to know the band quite well now. I felt a part of them when I had a pint with them before the gig in another famous pub off Matthew Street. It was just the four lads, with their boss, and owner of Microdot Recordings, Brian Cannon, famous for his Oasis album and single covers and work with the Verve. They seemed impatient but excited at the prospect of playing their first gig at the Cavern. The set was pretty much the same as last time but due to the true quality of the sound production, they sounded a million times better. They sounded polished and professional. The chequered Ben Sherman’s and skin tight jeans were in force.
They kicked off with Don’t Worry, an energetic upbeat stomper lead by a perfect pounding catchy bass line. The drummer Jon Davenport played tight and kept the energy levels constantly high for the next half hour. Andy McKay’s funkadelic guitar work blended in very well with the heavy indie force and sound. "All My Cares" was led by simple-but-effective chords with complimentary underlying guitar riffs which worked to perfection.
The next single, "Man In The Street", is a raw yet melodic foot stomper that grabbed everyone’s attention. It’s an upbeat yet heavy punchy number where the drums and bass combine as one. It has a great anthemic chorus, sang with meaning. Their new song, so far untitled, was again funkadelic followed by a force of cohesion during the chorus. It was written two days prior but sounded like they’d been playing it live for ages. Not just that, it was the best song of the set in my opinion. The boys were giving their all now, springing all over the stage like giddy children, properly enjoying themselves. It’s a shame there’s not long left. "The Error Of Your Ways" had an anthemic build up then they played it, with the sound just like the record itself. The crowd were totally engaged and some were bouncing.
