Here’s an idea. What if we get a bunch of contemporary artists from the AC30 record label and tell them to record their very own special versions of classic early indie tunes from bands like Spiritualized, Curve, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive to name a few. We could call it, ‘Never Lose That Feeling’ and spread it over 3 volumes? Lovely. The folks down in London who delivered this brainchild deserve a pat on the back. With the indie scene being in the spotlight and more successful than ever before it’s nice to see some people do indeed give a damn about some of the pioneers that graced the genre from the late 80’s to early 90’s.
We are given a glimpse back to the good ‘ole days with glorious re-workings of Spiritualized’s ‘Angel Sigh’, My Bloody Valentine’s ‘You Made Me Realise’ and Curve’s ‘Coast Is Clear’ and ‘Frozen’, all performed by AC30 favourites such as Andrew Kenny, Amusement Parks on Fire, Windermere and audiotransparent. What we get is a splendid journey through the feedback and fantastic noise of a genre that has grown into a national treasure over the past 20 years.
With two more volumes to go, it’ll be interesting to see what bands will feature as part of this interesting project from a label that seem to have their head screwed on.
