Having, like doubtless plenty of others, picked up Lostprophets debut album, The Fake Sound of Progress, happy to support some homegrown talent – before the likes of Funeral for a Friend and Bullet for a Valentine got all emo on our asses – and then fast losing interest, the prospect of a new Lostprophets single mostly inspires indifference.
However, what follows is a fun, summery, festivally rock anthem, an Anthem with a capital A. The lyrics are pretty banal (taking in the familiar themes of staying true to yourself and living without regrets), but then, what did you expect? It’s the Lostprophets, not Morrissey! And the lack of pretence is actually kind of refreshing.
It’s all pretty agreeable, competently done stuff. But what the hell, maybe I’m just being generous because the skies are blue, England have just trounced Jamaica in the football, and I don’t have to work today. Lostprophets could sure show Embrace a thing or two about writing an Anthem.
Anthem - noun.
A modern ballad accompanied by rock music instrumentation.
