If last night was Yorkshires’ night then tonight’s is defiantly Manchester’s night as the un-signed The Vincent Valmera Show take over the Roadhouse. With their kinetic and eccentric style they kick the night off with the self titled “Vincent Valmera Show”. The camp 5-piece band go on to slightly darker topics like murder, though the crowd stay upbeat. This is a fantastic mix of the music from the 1970’s, just think The Rolling Stones mixed with Roxy Music. They seem to be changing their set and musical style, as the last time they played in Manchester supporting The Kooks, they sounded a little like The Stone Roses, and this shows awesome creativity which is so very refreshing to hear.
Still people dance, still The V. V. Show riffles through the set. By now, the set has moved on, with the front man Pete Chevron, though by now probably called something else, strutting his stuff in a very Mick Jagger way. The band leaves with some resistance and whistles from the crowd, showing they had a great time. A quintessential British band that isn’t afraid of being a little quirky or un-American.
