You wouldn’t expect a group of four very much North London boys to cause a storm up in the north of England, but they sure did.
Captain Black, a 5 piece from London, with the same upbeat, almost country feel about their music were the main support for the Manchester date. They got the crowd moving with their unknown lyrics of London skies and parish bells, but there was an air of almost desperation for their set to finish as everyone was so eager to see the headliners.
“So this is Great Britain and welcome aboard”, and by this point the crowd was manic. It took all of the first riffs of “So this is Great Britain” to get the whole room dancing. The Holloways set was truly fantastic. They played most of their new album and a few of the B-Sides from their singles. After joking about once a fan made it up on stage about quite how big the bouncers were, they invited possibly the youngest fans I’ve seen in Academy 3 on stage, to sing along to “reinvent myself”, claiming that Manchester “starts them off young”. I bet those two kids didn’t know what was going on! The highlight and possibly most hectic point of the night was their final song, “Generator” where there was not a still body in the house. The encore consisted of London Town and F*ck-Ups and to be honest they did anything but. It was a fantastic performance and a showcase for bigger things. They’re back here in May, I advise you to go see them.
