Plugs - That Number
Released: 13th April 2008
Label: People In The Sky

Plugs is the brainchild and many guises of Morgan Quaintance of DIOYY fame. This slab of funky house / electronica is his first major piece of output for 2008.

The feel of the EP is cordial with a spiky edge of electronic edge (a la hot chip / the beloved) to keep you away from reaching the ‘fast forward’ button on your player.

I can feel the creativity coursing through Morgan’s vein and ‘That number’ is something most of his counterparts could only dream about in 10 years of toil and sweat.

‘That Number’ and ‘transatlantic air miles’ are the lead tracks with a couple of remixes of ‘number’ thrown in from’ Yuksek’ and ‘barringtone 1’ and they roll through your ears with a comparative ease – like tasting sweet honey that slides like nectar down your throat.

The highlight for me is the Yuksek mix of ‘Number’ as it has a hammer edge to it. It pummels your brain with some Prodigy-like beats, is extremely hypnotic but kept slick and streamlined. All the fat is stripped away. In my opinion it should be the final cut for radio.
I can see big things from Plugs in 2008. Let’s hope they keep their fingers well in the sockets.
