Kyte - Designed For Damage
Released: 25th July 2010
Label: KIDS

Low-key down-tempo indie lounging swirls around the influences of Morcheeba, Four Tet, Fields and old style Groove Armada for the opening of the title track. Before Kyte float off into a searching indie direction that displays climbing guitars, hushed, yet clear vocals and nudging percussion. They conjure up a climbing offering that speaks of a fatalistic nature.

The almost muted incongruous build up to ‘I’ll Follow Dreams For You’, leans towards Mogwai territory and the more hushed vocals represents enough of a departure to keep the interest ticking over. As the song builds Nick Moon’s mystical vocals are complemented by a slow rising electro edge that combines to produce spacey foraging, but the lyrics remain distanced and poetic.

‘The Lost Blood’, seeps in a slight orchestral toe early doors, as eerie ambience starts to fill the space around you and, it will be difficult to stop your mind going off for a walk around a cemetery. This is before a booming percussion, twisting electronic and rustic bass element combines with Moon’s worrisome, yet pedestrian vocals.

Kyte has conjured up an expansive and searching four track preview of their mystical and reflective approach.
