I must confess to having listened to very few tracks by Doves, yet upon
listening to their forthcoming single 'Sky Starts Falling', taken from their critically aclaimed number 1 album 'Some Cities' I was hugely surprised and greatly impressed.
It is immediately cleared that they are not a new band emerging onto the music scene. The Manchester trio comprising Jimi Goodwin(bass/vocals), and twin brothers Jez (guitar) and Andy Williams (drums), work amazingly well together, making sure that there is an even balance of instrumentation, giving each one a chance to shine without overshadowing any other important elements within the whole mixture.
The song has such versatility, it is emotionally charged with equally loud and soft parts throughout, allowing the song to be both happy and sad at the same time. I expect it to be even better when played live.
Doves fans will no doubt think this song to be very different from songs previously heard and released since this is shorter and more forceful, yet still a defining track. Some songs are instantly forgettable, but 'Sky Starts Falling' is anything but.
Having phenomenal success, playing at Glastonbury, T in the Park and the V Festival, and supporting U2, Coldplay and Oasis, Doves are surely going to be around for a very long time to come.
