How do you review one of the most famous songs ever written? I'll admit to feeling slightly surprised when this CD dropped through my letterbox. After all, it hardly qualifies as a new release, and it's not as if you (the readers) will be unfamiliar with this song. So instead, perhaps I should explain why 'No Woman No Cry' is being re-released.

This year would have been Marley's 60th birthday, and to celebrate that fact, Island Records are releasing a singles collection under the title of 'Africa Unite'. The album is being released in two formats - a single CD featuring his greatest hits, and a limited edition double CD which features the JAD singles on one disc, and the Island singles on the other.

An exclusive boxset is also being released, with 6 singles being made available in consecutive weeks, starting with this one, a live version of 'No Woman No Cry'. The B-side is a recording of 'Duppy Conqueror' live in Leeds in 1973.

The most interesting aspect of these new releases is the fourth of the six singles, the previously unreleased 'Slogans', which will also appear on the singles collections, and features Eric Clapton on guitar.

For true fans and collectors, these releases will be highly worthwhile. But if, as I do, you already own collections of Marley's work, you might be better off spending your hard earned cash on 'Welcome to Jamrock', the latest album by Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley, Bob's youngest son. Released in September, it's all the proof that was needed that Damian is the true successor to his father's legacy.
