To celebrate the year that would have been Bob Marley’s 60th birthday, Island records are releasing a special collection of six classic Bob Marley singles in six consecutive weeks. Each of these singles is backed by a special live version of another Bob Marley song.
‘Sun Is Shining’ was originally released in 1979 and it is a genuine classic. The inspirational idea behind it says that despite the sunshine, people are still suffering and this is as relevant today as when it was originally released.
This song is backed by ‘Jamming’, recorded live at The Rainbow, on 4th June 1977 which claims to be “the party song”, and certainly makes an effective B-Side.
This singles collection is a nice idea, especially for those of us for whom Bob Marley was before our times, although perhaps bordering on geeky for those who enjoyed his music the first time round - maybe in that case this is one just for the fans.
