The Zutons (Secret show) @ Pier Head
Date: 20th May 2006

The Zutons surprise home coming gig was the best kept secret since erm….? Anyway, the band released the details of the secret location on their website just a couple of hours before the gig. Which gave them a crowd of about three hundred hardcore fans, friends and family. The crowd was warmed-up (not literally, as it was probably the coldest day in spring) by scouse comedian Chris Cairns. The band were introduced on stage by Radio One’s Edith Bowman and the show was recorded for Channel 4. The Zutons knew what the crowd wanted and the first half of the show was dedicated to tracks from the platinum selling debut album “Who Killed The Zutons” including “Dirty Dance Hall” and “Pressure Point”, the band played new singles “Valerie” and “Why won’t you give me your love” and encored with “You Will You Won’t”. Even the prevailing winds coming from the Mersey couldn’t deter the proud crowd. And although the stylish indie-kids resembled Freddy Boswell by the end, it was a good time had by all! “Tired of Hanging around” is the bands second album, and if this taster was anything to go by, not only Merseyside but the whole world will soon have Zuton Fever!
