A super charm-less metal/post-grunge dirge, from the ‘Best British Band’ nominated (Metal Hammer Awards) quintet Breed 77, taken from their forthcoming LP, ‘All in Blood’, with production from Tool and Soundgarden man, Ron St. Germain.
For anyone already familiar with any of Breed 77’s previous output, ‘Blind’ might not deliver anything unexpected, chunky palm-muted chords, chest shuddering bass lines and Paul Isola’s soaring vocal delivery of some pretty tired metal clichés.
The musicianship throughout is impressive, although the B-side, ‘Someone Tell Me’ contains an excruciating mid-section that serves as little more than a technical exercise for guitar shedders everywhere to wow over, before the double-bass pedal crescendo puts the average (non-muso) listener out of their collective misery.
Bruising riffs, juggernaut beats, guttural screams, all delivered with a Latino feel make up the Breed 77 sound, ‘Blind’, should please the already converted, whilst containing the sort of post-grunge melodies and hooks that could see them achieve the cross over success of bands like Trivium or Bullet For My Valentine, but it probably won’t.
