Bedouin Soundclash seems to be one of those few bands that really care about the music, rather than the fame – their crossover into mainstream seemed to come after T-Mobile featured one of their songs in their commercial, but they have been featured on the likes of MTV in the past year and are fast becoming the new ‘Jack Johnson’ of laid back songs.
12.59 Lullaby is a beautiful track that is stated as a yearning for ‘the person you always leave behind’. There is a tone of reminiscence in the background, layered with the acoustic lullaby tune that makes the song so calming. What I particularly enjoy about this band is the simplicity of the music and vocals – lead singer Jay’s voice is husky, accented, innocent and altogether charming, and the acoustics are played on jazz bass guitar that brings back the sound of the 70’s jazz scene. The band performs with artists such as Damian Marley and Ben Harper, and they bring the feel of austerity and relaxed beats to their audience.
The rising success of this band is rightly justified – they are truly talented and inject a new flavour to the music scene and by the sounds of it, they put on a great live show. This single will attract a wide range of music tastes, so is well worth the listen.
