Britain’s most controversial Rock star Pete Doherty surfaces hear in a cameo appearance on Mike Skinner’s The Street’s new track ‘Prangin Out’. Skinner himself is no novice when it comes to headlines of rock star excess so a duet with Doherty that deals directly with such behaviour does have logic.
‘Prangin Out’ comes from The Streets latest album ‘The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living’ and plays as another autobiographical look into the life of main man Mike Skinner. The track details the problems of maintaining the rock star cliché of life in the cold light of day. The beats deliver a gorgeous steady rhythm that makes the track ooze gently along with a slight stench of misery. Doherty’s voice seems rather gentle and fragile on this release as he doesn’t rap, as much as simply recite his part about his own misery and low days. Skinner seems in his element here as with the majority of his best work there is always an edge of miserable realism, that seems a little to close to the bone perhaps.
Skinner has embedded himself on the musical landscape of the UK since his debut 3 years ago. His output is always interesting and he can undoubtedly be called one of the hardest workers in the business. His third album has already been on the shelves for 6 months this year and his heavy touring continues at a pace. This single play’s as a fascinating little collaboration, perhaps both had been watching The Odd Couple recently before coming up with the idea?
