In all honesty, I’ve never heard of this Canadian-based five-piece, which isn’t much of a surprise considering my lack of interest in growler-based metal rock. The title of the track alone suggests that they’re going to be chatting some “Da Vinci Code” s**t - whether it would be interesting or boring, remained to be seen, however.
The intro sounded like some mental rock - like Aphex Twin had suddenly became partial to rocking out a Marshall amp. The style of the song is rather creative from a production point-of-view, and I’m sure they used up a hell of a lot of tracks on Pro Tools or whatever device they made it on. It’s not often you hear Aphex-style rock with a tinge of acoustically melancholic Jimmy Webb being blended back in to the traditional growls of fledging rock stars.
If you’re not into metal rock or anything that could be deemed similar, then Protest The Hero will definitely not have done enough to sway your opinion; on the other hand, if you like this sort of music then you may well enjoy this mind-bending convergence of Catholicism and chaos.
