After the release of their latest single ‘Rose’ from the album ‘Twelve Stops And Home’ The Feeling decided to grace Manchester with their presence and that was enough to blow you away...
From an impressive start the concert got better throughout and came to an exhilarating climax making the audience beg for more. This could only have been done with the help of the bands mix of catchy lyrics and impressive playing.
An unusual beginning was the introduction of a white sheet covering the stage, this was revealed to be a screen for the projection of many videos from YouTube of people singing along to their catchy summer single ‘Fill My Little World’ and the earlier single ‘Sewn’. This put the audience in a great mood with clapping and laughing coming from all directions. In the flash of a hat the screen was gone and the band began their awesome performance which front man Dan Gillespie Sells made even better by bringing stories about the band’s previous performances in Manchester and their local knowledge of Abdul’s kebabs into the arena.
Playing all the songs from their current album ‘Twelve Stops And Home’ along with a song reserved for live performances called ‘Join Together’ and covers of The Buggle’s 1979 hit ‘Video Killed The Radio Star’ and Queen’s ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’ from 1978, made this performance truly un-miss able.
The mix of The Feeling’s un-offensive lyrics about things as trivial as a bottle of wine and their very memorable riffs such as those in ‘Fill My Little World’, ‘Never Be Lonely’, and ‘I Love It When You Call’ made this concert very special.
Furthermore, no matter how many songs had been played and how long they’d been on stage the audience still wanted more. The band performed two encores and throughout both the audience were all on feet clapping along. It seemed to me that everyone in Manchester’s Apollo was having the time of their life and didn’t want to let the band go to Abduls to reminisce about their first gig in Manchester at the Night and Day café.
From the circle, where I was sat, you could see the crowd down below who were stood almost shoulder to shoulder and when turning around there was not a visible empty seat which illustrates the pulling power of this group. I would recommend to any one that wants a good night out that will stay in their minds for a long to go and see The Feeling.
