Good Shoes hail from London and play excellent new wave pop music which sounds a lot like a happy Bloc Party. This relatively young band also sound much older then their years, with their lyrical subject matter. They are also extremely underrated at the minute, but this is definitely going to change once you have heard the album.
Think Before You Speak is an excellent collection of their fast paced indie pop tunes, squashing 14 superb tracks into just 35 minutes. The album opens with Nazanin which has a one minute 22 seconds long intro and contains the only lyric of, "all of my insecurities summed up, when you walk into my room before finishing", and ends after a mere two minutes five seconds.
Stand out tracks on the album include Photos which contains the rather excellent line, "I don’t think before I speak/I break your heart/I think I could do better/so arrogant", on top of angular guitars and drum beats.
New single Never Meant to Hurt You has a chorus of "I never meant to hurt you," which will stick in your head all day. The rest of the lyrics feel like they could have been written by men much older then these, which the questioning lyrics of, "do you ever/feel like you’ve broken someone’s heart?"
Modern is about not liking where you live and sounds like Larrikin Love, while All in My Head is full of pounding drums and repetitive chorus with a nice guitar solo, that sounds not dissimilar to the Beach Boys.
Overall a debut that looks set to gain Good Shoes access into the conscious of a wider audience. It is bursting with arty pop tunes just waiting to be heard by the masses, and when they do everyone will be wanting some Good Shoes. For more information you can visit: http://www.goodshoes.co.uk
