The latest single by The Young Knives is a driving indie rock groove, supplemented by monotonic vocal exclamations and pseudo-satirical choral chanting.
Terra Firma has its moments, but for me, these guys continue to pay too much attention to ‘what’s cool’ rather than what’s good. As we all know, fashions change, but class is permanent. And I worry about The Young Knives because, although there is talent there, they could well get left behind by shifting trends in music.
The B Side, Holiday Everyday, has even more musical potential but is tarnished at times by needlessly ironic vocals.
In short, they make me jig but I don’t like the cut of their current jib.
