The Trestles formed in 2008 after talented Liverpool songwriter Al O'Hare joined forces with Tom Carroll a clever young musician. They gained a great reputation last year playing together in the underground acoustic scene of Liverpool with rave performances at Parr Street studios and Mathew Street's Mellowtone @ View Two Gallery.
After the full band came to the fore during August bank Holiday's Matthew Street Festival 2008 the band got together and released this recent and most impressive EP 'Hard Faced Town'.
First Track 'A Shot of Wonder' has a real innocent sun kissed feel at the start and then bounds away with a toe tapping melody. Vocally different from many of the local bands a kind of warm and affectionate voice that resonates on the chorus 'I got a shot of wonder'.
'Heavy Heart' immediately hits you with that Oasis esq rasping guitar feel as Al and the gang calmly stick out their chests to let the world know The Trestles have arrived. This track indicates that early promise and beautiful joy, almost a big potential in the making...comparisons are correct think early Oasis with Bruce Springsteen at the helm. A proud song!
' Hard Faced Town' is a deep take that captures the imagination of the current landscape. The Trestles speak from the streets of Liverpool and cleverly say it how it is 'Why don’t you get rid of that Scally Pout'. A rousing sing-a-long which will have everyone at their gigs belting it out!
The fourth track on the EP 'Where's The Glory' takes on the sound of The Rolling Stones's 'Dead Flowers' with a great tight nit layer of guitars and subtle drumming in the backdrop. A truly impressive track that will stick in your head and of course mentioning those Irish Fields of 'Athenrye'....
