What looks like an over- dressed school band on the cover, turns out to be… well... pretty much the same sort of thing. It seems to be all about groove and mood with a cheap drum and synth backing for their lead mistress to do her thing to for the large part.
Take a song like “Genius Pretender” and you have something quite scary. Whilst the vocals are (like a lot of the music) very cheesy and from a time best forgotten – there is at least potential for improvement. But when your beginnings are rotten in this disposable teeny rock trash there is really nowhere to go but up. And duly things do get a lot better as the album progresses.
What the band do know though is their disco and pop genres. And admittedly they can mimic certain things quite well. A highlight on the album is probably “I’m not your friend” that gets the music right and makes something memorable of the chorus. Whilst it is a male heavy vocal track the ladies do make an appearance, but the backing here again seems a bit cheesy and forced.
The female vocals seem to carry better the harder rock tracks like “Everytime We Kiss,” but run into trouble of the softer more emotional tracks. Basically it’s an album of mixed views and clashes and this gives way to some favourable results. If they need anything next time round then it should be focus.
