Brooklyn’s Savoir Adore serve up a sound similar to a Zooey Deschanel-lead Dirty Projectors shot through with early Concretes. And it’s great! Don’t expect anything epic or life-changing from their meandering and somewhat whimsical melodies; they’re simplistic, effective and it’s fair to say, just enough.
The lyrics are engaging and ride the rhythms wonderfully, with themes of regret-tinged intoxication serving as vocal bookends to this debut LP. I should mention the track titles too, which perhaps offer a little insight into the bands collective mindset (Transylvanian Candy Patrol, MERP, The Scientific Findings of Dr. Rousseau, The Wooded Forest).
‘In the Wooded Forest’ starts off with a peculiar choice for an opener, which somewhat thematically ambles it’s pretty yet aimless way through to the close. Darting from accomplished, accessible buoyancy and yearning melancholy with each song, the experience is enjoyable, albeit a little unadventurous despite its non-traditional compositions.
All in all, Savoir Adore are more than worth their weight in song and I’m already looking forward to their next offering, which should (hopefully) prove to be bolder, stranger and more dynamic. For their debut though, great effort guys!
