It's become a bit of a cliche now to compare New York's White Rabbits to their friend's Spoon. Let's forget all the Spoon references as this is their night and it's interesting to see how they go on with their first Liverpool gig.

The small venue quickly began to fill up as Beowulf, the night's support band came on with their drummer sported a rather colourful red patterned shirt. Their set was rather impressive and got the crowd nodding their heads along. One audience member commented 'These guys are amazing. This is a good set.' If you've never heard these guys before just think post rock mixed with the pop stylings of Two Door Cinema Club and the vocal work of The Rumble Strips. One main problem with the band is that they tuned a little too much and it ruined the flow.

Of course, Beowulf aren't the main attraction though. A certain New York quintet is. The crowd size didn't quite fill the room and it was a little dissapointing that there was a silence as the band came on but that didn't stop them. Despite sound difficulties at the beginning, White Rabbits managed to pull of a captivating set. The percussive instruments sound powerful on record but live they sound like an army going to war. Highlights include "Rudie Fail's" which sounded like something powerful was going through the crowd. The band seemed like they were coming at you even from underneath your feet. Unsuprisingly "Percussion Gun" garnished the most cheers from the crowd. The band left the stage and as the crowd chanted "we want more" they came on for an encore finishing with "The Salesman."

Forget all the Spoon comparisons. White Rabbits are a truly explosive band on stage. They have a powerful presence and are able to rattle through your head in a fantastic way.

8/10
