Label: Island

Wow talk about artist promotion! Just a glance at London warbler VV Brown’s impressive upcoming gig list suggests that she’s a great tip to bet your bottom dollar on in dominating pop music within the next twelve months; all of the biggys are there – Glasto, Bestival, Rock Am Ring as well as a very thorough tour of her home nation. But unlike hundreds of artists each year, does she live up to the hype?

I believe the answer to be a resounding yes, and her third release ‘Shark In The Water’ ticks all of the right boxes to support this. Light, non-repetitive and with the likeable fluffy sugary-sweet consistency of a marshmallow it’s difficult not to fall for this artist immediately. Wearing her prominent jazz influence proudly on her sleeve, she will undoubtedly be compared to Wino but the only thing that VV Brown injects is a much needed sense of fun and pop-factor into modern music. In comparison to the (although talented) incredibly boring and generic likes of Leona Lewis and fellow disposable temporary superstars, VV Brown is a gust of fresh air combining the classy appeal of jazz vocals with well produced poppy music that seems to compliment and leave space for VV Brown to shine.

Shark In The Water sounds current, fresh and undoubtedly has the potential to thrive at many, if not all of those upcoming summer festival performances. When her debut album ‘Travelling Like The Light’ is released in July expect nothing but full on adoration and love for the saviour of solo British jazz-pop, because her predecessor has seemingly expired.
