Is it possible for Death Cab For Cutie to write one song that isn’t good? I think not.
This legendary band have hit their stride exceptionally well with fifth album ‘Plans’. This single taken from ‘Plans’ is the perfect example of Ben Gibbard’s lilting vocal stylings and the gently assured instrumental presence of fellow band members – Chris Walla, Nick Harmer and Jason McGerr.
‘Crooked Teeth’ is a real summer song with a bittersweet twist that really epitomises the duality of ‘Plans’ as an album.
B-side ‘Talking Like Turnstiles’ is also in the vein of the album, with gently pulsating percussion and very present guitar parts alternating with wandering background riffs. Gibbard’s voice is as disconcertingly soothing as ever - another morsel of deliciousness from Death Cab For Cutie.
