Beyonce’s star climbs higher with the first single to be taken from her latest album “B’ Day”, featuring production from the likes of The Neptunes and Rich Harrison and a little help from her fella Jay-Z.
With her Destiny’s Child days now seemingly over for good, Beyonce can now fully realise her potential as a solo artist. With her debut album selling 11 million copies worldwide, and first single ‘Crazy In Love’ still a regular feature on radio and music channels play lists, expectations are pretty high for her next release.
Also, following a series of god awful film roles, and a recent run in with members of PETA over her use of animal fur in her stage costumes, which left a small gash in the Beyonce brand, now’s a good time to inherit the wholesome, princess of pop title once and for all.
‘DÈje Vu’ has a similar feel to ‘Crazy…’ Beyonce passionately wails over funky bass lines, punctuated with a horn section, giving the song a vintage Prince feel with a modern hip hop spin and once again Jay-Z is on hand to reiterate just how successful he is, boasting about his number of hits, lest we forget…
The track has a classic, old school funk feel, as through it were a re-working of an old Motown single played through by funk heavy weights, Parliament and features a chorus that’s impossible to ignore.
Similarly, the video contains the same sexy, energetic dancing and rapid camera shots that would appeal to anyone with the attention span of a nat.
So, all signs point to this being another successful single for the once “Independent Woman” and with a starring role in a film based on The Supremes due for release in December, don’t expect Beyonce to fade away anytime soon.
