Emotional trauma and personal conflicts have often been the muse to encourage creatively, and with the third single from We Are The Ocean’s album ‘Go Now Live’- ‘Runaway’ deals with the break-up of the two vocalist’s parents.
This is a more delicate piece in-keeping with the subject matter, than previous single’s ‘The Waiting Room’ and ‘What Feels Like’ - less busy and more positioned into stadium singing anthems, allowing both vocalists something to really explore.
Liam Cromby’s cleaner vocals lead the way, and they wisely use Dan Brown’s slightly harsher voice to accent the more aggressive forward motion.
Both vocalists have learned to complement each other well, this second album seeing them graduate and find a ground that works for both.
Stripping things down means that the main melody has to be incredibly strong, and although the verses are well constructed the chorus feels a step away from great, a few from epic and lies in the catchy area, which is fine, but feels like they could have made more of the idea; especially if they are to advance and engage larger live audiences.
