24 year old Scot Sandi Thom is a great example for lovers of innovation. Instead of travelling across the UK for gigs, this singer/songwriter staged a three week world tour from the basement of her flat in Tooting, South London. Her audience on the first night was 70 people. By the end of her imaginary tour she had 70,000 web viewers from all around the world. It did not take long for RCA to visit her flat and sign Sandi for five albums. After all, Sandi, along with bandmates Jake Field and Duncan Thompson, had shown outstanding passion and inspiration and proved that even with the most basic means, the results can be amazing.
On June 5th Sandi will release her debut album ‘Smile… It Confuses People’. The tracks on this album are soaked in bittersweet melodies, pulling together folk, pop and rock and carving Sandi Thom a strong musical identity. Out of the ten songs on the album, ‘Lonely Girl’ and ‘Castles’ already stand out, as does ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker’, with its catchy tune and Sandi’s crystal clear vocals, evoking memories of the late 60’s.
‘I was born too late to a world that does not care’ says Sandi. But the world will care, Sandi, the world will care a lot. If she keeps writing songs like these, the size of her audience will continue to add noughts. For more information you can visit: http://www.sandithom.com
