The Fratellis delight fans with performance that won't be a secret for long.
The ‘secret’ location of the haunted Culcreuch Castle proved the perfect backdrop for a band who get better with every live show. Tonight The Fratellis entertain a selection of music journalists and 300 competition winning fans and do so with rapturous effects. The lone piper greets the crowd as they make their way into the cosy room which will later ring out with some of the newest and cathyiest tunes rock music has to offer. Before the gig gets underway; first things first. The revelation of a free bar had the crowd wooing with joy - and thats even before a chord is strummed. When the band take to the stage the crowd has just about had their money’s worth of the drink and food on offer and are more than ready to jump to every beat and to sing every line their heroes belt out. They celebrated the release of their debut album ‘Costello Music’ with a set of full of flavour and spirit. They were also given a nice surprise to find out their album had reached 100,000 copies sold, achieving gold disk status as well as going straight in a number two in the album charts.
The band have had a high profile few months, playing top festivals such as Benicassim, T in the Park as well as Leeds and Readings Carling Weekenders. But despite such high profile gigs the band were delighted to negotiate the windy roads and perform in the intimate settings. The Fratellis ran through fans-favourites like ‘Creepin' Up The Backstairs’, ‘Got Ma Nuts From A Hippy’ and ‘Henrietta’. New single ‘Chelsea Dagger’ had the enthusiastic crowd rockin’ early on in the show and by the time ‘Whistle For The Choir’ came the fans were just about ready for the gentle sway’s that this nights highlight dictated. The short but sublime set left everyone upbeat for the long journey home and wondering when they’ll get the chance to see a band like this perform in such meagre settings again. Probably never.
